The film is another cult b-horror film largely due to its sometimes ludicrous and silly death scenes including chocolate milk, irons, and other non-murderous weapons used in deadly ways.

Besides his gore films, Lewis had other successes with his strange moralistic films like “The Girl, the Body, and the Pill” which used the then controversial topic of birth control and the pill to fuel ticket sales. The film shows the corruption of a young high *********** as her boyfriend pushes to go all the way. When she does try to procure birth control from her pharmacy just in case, she is rebuffed by the prudish pharmacy workers. The film banked on the controversy of the film’s advertising promising it would be the most explicit and controversial film on the subject ever.

Another similar movie was “Suburban Roulette” which warned against the dangers of wife swapping and “swinging” which was, again, a hot topic in the late 60s that would bring ticket sales. The film isn’t very good and is another obvious attempt to cash in on a controversial subject of the day. Similarly, “Blast-Off Girls” is about the dangers of the rock star life and the often cruel and dangerous music industry that abuse and take advantage of young musicians.

Lewis didn’t make a film for many years after 1972 until he returned in 2002 with a sequel to “Blood Feast.” He is still working, most recently directing the film “The Uh! Oh! Show” about a deadly game show. It has a DVD release scheduled for 2010.
